Recently in June, Dover Uke Heads decided that we needed to acknowledge Canadian songs by Canadian writers. We held a theme night, our own Canadiana night, as our tribute to Canada Day on June 25th in the gazebo.
We started out with O Canada We Play Our Ukes for Thee. Trust Peter to find us the most unique uke tribute to O Canada that exists! The rest of our groups songs were Snowbird by Anne Murray, Circle Game by Joni Mitchell, Farewell to Nova Scotia, Harvest_Moon by Neil Young, If I Had a Million Dollars by the Barenaked Ladies, Man I Feel Like A Woman by Shania Twain, Red River Valley, Sudbury Saturday Night by Stompin’ Tom Connors, Summer of 69 by Bryan Adams, The Arms of Mary, This Land Is Your Land, and Working man by Rita MacNeil.
These are the tunes that individuals brought to share with the group:
Kay – Four Strong Winds
Audrey – Alberta Bound by Gordon Lightfoot
Sandy – Pussywillow Cattails, also by Gordon Lightfoot
Lisa and her dad – If I Had a Million Dollars by the Barenaked Ladies
Susan – Tiny Fish for Japan
Dan – Home From the Forest by Gordon Lightfoot
Jenny – Fred Eaglesmith’s I Like Trains
Cheryl – The Log-Driver’s Waltz
Cat – 26 Cents by Ontario country music band, the Wilkinsons.
