DUH & Our Community

Shrove Tuesday 2 Shrove Tuesday 1

Dover Uke Heads started off performances in 2015 by playing for charity on February 17th.

The Grace United Church (our home base) asked us to play songs for an hour at their Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper as we did previously in 2013. Pat Tinney, the co-ordinator for that event, said they had even more patrons at the supper this year than last year. We had a great time playing our Regular Set List, and we want the church to know that we were glad to help out.

We also were asked to do the same thing for the church’s Irish Stew Supper which was held one month later on March 17th: St. Patrick’s Day. Our group looked at this as an opportunity to put together a great line-up of Irish Songs. Much thanks to Mandy for finding some great songs. Although we know it must’ve been nerve-wracking, we are all proud of her for leading not one but TWO events with Our Fearless Leader. She did a great job directing us and I am real proud of us as a group for following her. Our complete Irish Songs downloadable set list can be found here on our website under the Songs tab.

Meanwhile……..

Just a few days before we were set to play on St. Patrick’s Day, Peter had a call from a local gal named Carissa about playing in her family-owned restaurant and bar on the weekend. Luckily we were fully prepared with our Irish songs so Peter quickly emailed the group that this was a “go” for anyone who was available. We played for about one and a half hours or so, on Sunday March 15th at the Sandbar on the Beach down in Turkey Point. We wore green, drank some green beer and toasted to our “green roots” whether they were real or adopted.
